Get your practice in front of laid-off H-1B workers searching for an attorney.

H-1B Compass is an advertising platform— not a law firm and not a lawyer referral service. We run free grace-period tools and guides that laid-off, well-funded H-1B workers use at the moment they need counsel. List your practice and high-intent users who match your state and focus can choose you and consent to an introduction. You pay a flat listing fee — never a share of your fees, never contingent on whether anyone retains you.

High-intent audience

Our free calculator + tracker draw H-1B workers at the moment they need counsel. They filter the directory by state, specialty, and language and choose who to contact — you advertise to serious, educated, well-funded searchers, the way you would on any directory.

Qualified contacts

Anyone who reaches you has already self-served the tools (so they understand their options), confirmed an email (double opt-in), and consented to share their situation summary. They arrive informed and ready to talk — not a cold name on a list.

Built compliant

We are an advertising platform, not a lawyer referral service. Your fee is a flat listing fee billed directly to you— never a percentage of your fees, never deducted from a client’s payment, never contingent on retention. We never recommend, rank, or vouch for any attorney; the consumer chooses. This is the bright line the state-bar opinions that shut Avvo down actually left standing.

How it works

  1. 1

    Apply

Fill out the application form belowwith your bar number, primary state, AILA membership year, and 2-3 sentences on your H-1B practice focus. We verify AILA membership in good standing and confirm $100K E&O minimum.

  2. 2

    Configure your profile

Set practice states, languages spoken, specialties (transfer, I-539 H-4, NIW, EB-1A, removal defense, etc.), and capacity cap (max leads per month).

  3. 3

    Consumers choose you

A user browsing the directory filters by state/specialty/language and selects you. With their consent, we forward their contact details + a 1-page situation summary they agreed to share. You reach out within 24 hours. We never pick or rank for them.

  4. 4

    Flat listing fee

You pay a fixed listing fee billed directly to you — the same whether zero or fifty users contact you, never a percentage of your fees, never contingent on a client retaining you. (In the strictest states — NY, NJ, OH — listing is subscription-only.) No share of legal fees, ever.

FAQ

Is this ethically compliant? You’re not a law firm.

Correct — H-1B Compass is not a law firm, and we are deliberately nota lawyer referral service. We are an advertising platform. We never recommend, rank, score, or vouch for any attorney — the consumer filters a directory and chooses. Your fee is flat advertising billed directly to you, never a percentage of your fees and never contingent on retention. That structure is what distinguishes a permissible advertising cost (ABA Model Rule 7.2(b)(1)) from the percentage/contingent models multiple state bars rejected in the Avvo opinions. You are always the legal advisor of record. (We’ll share our written compliance summary at onboarding; we recommend you confirm with your own state bar.)

How does this work in strict fee-split states (NY, NJ, OH)?

The same flat-advertising-fee model applies everywhere, with no percentage and no contingency. In the strictest states — New York, New Jersey, Ohio — we default to a flat-subscription listing only (no per-contact fee at all) to stay well inside their guidance.

What’s the typical case profile?

Most leads need an H-1B transfer (I-129 with portability under INA §214(n)) or an I-539 dependent change-of-status (H-4, F-1, B-2). High-intent leads include I-140-mature workers seeking Compelling Circumstances EAD or AC21 §104(c) extensions, and PhD/researcher segment users exploring NIW/EB-1A self-petition.

When do you plan to start routing?

We’re in private beta. Initial panel of 25 attorneys is the launch gate. Apply early to be in that founding cohort — we’ll be selective on geography and specialty spread.

Apply to join the panel

Tell us where you practice and what you focus on. We’ll verify your AILA membership and E&O coverage, then activate your profile so warm, consented referrals start routing to you.
