STEM OPT

24-month extension of OPT for F-1 graduates of designated STEM programs employed by E-Verify employers.

Adds 24 months to the standard 12-month OPT (for a total of 36 months). Requires: STEM-designated degree program from a regionally-accredited US institution, E-Verify-enrolled employer, formal training plan (Form I-983) with the employer. Many tech companies that won't sponsor H-1B WILL host STEM OPT — they get cheap junior labor without the H-1B fees and lottery.
